What is a bonded warehouse?

A bonded warehouse (bonded or licensing warehouse) is a secure logistics storage complex that is under customs supervision and allows importers to store goods in it that are subject to payment of import taxes (including customs duties and VAT).

This system exists in every developed country in the world, which makes the bonded warehouse an integral part of the global supply system.

There are two main types of bonded warehouses:

General bonded warehouses, where any person can store goods according to an agreement he made with the owners of the container terminal.
Private bonded warehouses, where goods belonging to the license owner can only be stored. Examples of private bonded warehouses: car import warehouses and showrooms, duty-free, safes where you can keep precious stones, and so on.

The distance of the bonded warehouses from customs cannot exceed 20 kilometers. Some of them are managed by the government, but the majority belong to private companies.

How is storage done in bonded warehouses?

Before the goods are transferred to the warehouse, a note is issued as aforesaid (entry into the warehouse) in which the tax amount is determined, although it is not obligatory to pay it at this time.
